4 Tips for Warming Up Your Space with Design

There’s really nothing quite like cozying up in your space. In the morning with your coffee, in the afternoon while gazing out the window, or in the evening by the fire. But what if your place doesn’t feel all that warm and inviting?

We have four tips for warming up your home with design.

Tip 1: Opt for Warm Wood Tones

Nothing really grounds a space like wood, especially warm walnuts and sandy oaks. Against a white, concrete, or stone backdrop, wood really brings coziness to a space with its organic grain and texture.

You can add wood in any which way. Through your cabinetry doors, ceiling beams, flooring, or even just the furniture you bring into your home.

Tip 2: Invest in Darker Accents

Rather than shiny chrome and silver accents and accessories, try working with brushed black metals. Just the darker tone alone will warm up a space more than its lighter counterpart.

The best part about accents is that they’re easy to bring into a space. Try updating your cabinetry hardware, installing a new light fixture, or even go as simply as choosing dark picture frames to put up on your lighter walls.

Tip 3: Opt for Colourful Cabinetry

While all white can be quite the rage, we love colourful cabinets in kitchens, offices, bathrooms, mudrooms and more. Especially when paired with brass hardware.

Colourful cabinetry can make even the largest space feel warm and inviting, and our favourites are colours on the darker end. The bigger bonus is that it won’t show sticky fingers or spilled messes as easily either.

Tip 4: Decorate with Plants

This tip should really be combined with any other. Plants are 100% the answer to making any corner feel warm. Like wood tones, there’s just something about adding this organic element into your space that really makes you want to cozy up in a comfy robe.

Take bathrooms, places that can have a sterile feeling if not designed right. A little potted plant in the corner or some eucalyptus in your shower will give your bathroom that grounded, inviting spa feeling. Guaranteed.
