Home Organization Tips and Tricks

Spending so much time at home these days certainly gives us the opportunity to reflect on how we use our space and where improvements can be made. What if you had a built-in desk station so you weren’t working from your dining room table? What if your kids had a dedicated space for their homework or homeschooling? What if you had a mudroom that kept the mess at bay so that you could keep calm each time you entered your home?

Home organization isn’t a trivial thing. It’s an ever-important aspect to maximizing the function and comfort of your home. After all, it’s pretty hard to relax if you’re surrounded by mess.

Built-In Offices

What makes an ideal work from home space? Storage, organization and simplicity. Working from home can be stressful. Maybe you have kids running around, maybe you’re distracted by the laundry or to-do list. Making sure your workplace communicates calm will be a big help.

Customized millwork ensures there are drawers and cabinets to hide the mess and filing cabinets for organization. Keeping the design simple and clean-lined allows you to focus on your work and help to keep home-life and work-life separate.

Streamlined Mudrooms

We all know how it feels to walk in the door only to see a pile of shoes, jackets on the floor, and coats crammed on top of each other in the closet. Suddenly our mind has gone from calm to chaotic in a matter of seconds.

When you strategically design a mudroom that has both open and closed storage with a ton of hanging space that is suited for your families needs, you can go from disarray to peaceful organization in a heartbeat. Though it may not be the focal point of your home it can make a huge difference in your day to day life, especially if your mudroom can be viewed from other points of your home, like when sitting on your living room couch.

If you have kids, try labelling cubbies with their names so they get excited to put their shoes and backpacks away in a space that’s all their own.

Dedicated learning spaces

Whether it’s full-time school, after-school programs, or just every day homework, it’s becoming more and more necessary these days for kids to have dedicated learning spaces. Doing your schoolwork on the floor of the playroom isn’t ideal, especially if that race car is just begging to be played with.

Cornering off a section of the house that tends to remain quiet is a great way to get kids in the headspace for their schoolwork. They may even start to get excited to sit down at their new desk!
