When embarking on the journey to enhance the livability, functionality and aesthetic appeal of your home, the specialized services of an interior designer are invaluable.

Heronwood thrives through the generations of woodworking that make up our fabric, as well as the longstanding relationships it has built with innovative design professionals like Karly Parker, Principal Interior Designer at Karly Parker Interior Design.

Cultivating Connection

Enhancing the connection between your dream and the products that will bring your vision to life, an interior designer is key to ensuring all elements of design are harmonious, and that your dream is nurtured from the design plans right through to completion of your project. Working with designers like Karly enhances our ability to execute stunning, memorable, high end finished looks. We love the opportunity to work with Karly, and we sat down with her to discuss how her process enhances our custom cabinetry process:

Why did you become an interior designer?

Since the time I was a little girl, I developed a strong love for construction and finishing. I spent many years watching my grandfather in his workshop, and touring his residential and commercial construction projects. The construction business was started by his grandfather in 1928, and is still being presently run by my uncle, Kevin Wheatcroft.

What is your favourite thing about the work you do?

I love working with people. Furthermore, I love listening to their wants and needs, creating the vision for their dream home. I also really love being on site with trades and going over every single detail. It's all about the details!

What are the biggest benefits to a client when they choose to work with a designer?

The biggest advantage and benefit is helping our clients come up with a plan for their renovation or new construction project prior to construction commencing. We know exactly the steps that go into the construction process, and what’s expected throughout construction. We will help plan as far ahead as possible, and there are very minimal last minute decisions to make, so you will have a well planned and executed project. The other great advantage is helping our clients manage their budgets. We help our clients spend their money consciously, and where it is most impactful.

What could happen if you don't have a designer?

It’s easy to spend thousands of dollars on finishes, and there are hundreds of design decisions that a client will have to make— throughout a project, and on a daily basis. We assure our clients that they are making educated decisions that will give their project a cohesive and beautiful result, while taking advantage of every design opportunity.

Why is Heronwood your go-to choice for millwork?

We love working with Heronwood because they always guarantee to execute our vision, making sure every detail is considered and taken care of. We love the customer service they provide to our clients; when referring trades, we want them to be an extension of ourselves.

What are the latest trends you see in kitchen design and millwork?

We aren't necessarily trend followers, though we always like to stay current with what's happening in the industry. Educating ourselves with the newest products and treatments is always of our highest importance. Whether it's a modern feeling our clients are after, or a timeless traditional design, we always want to keep our designs fresh and ahead of the curve.

One thing we have been incorporating in both styles —modern and traditional—is the introduction of natural woods in our cabinetry. Whether it be natural white oak or walnut veneer, almost all of our kitchens have a combination of colours and materials.

Karly specializes in designing residential spaces, navigating large renovations, and crafting custom homes that will speak to your individual style and the overall aesthetic you desire. Her experience in bringing a variety of spaces to life also includes public spaces like offices, retail locations and hospitality hubs.

Enhancing the functionality of the spaces she designs helps ensure the potential of each project is maximized, aligning the aesthetic you long for with the products and services that will produce it. Including an interior designer in your project team will create cohesion throughout your home, and will highlight and enhance the fine finishing produced by your trusted team at Heronwood Custom Cabinetry, aligning your personal vision with the practicality and experience of a design professional specialized in bringing your dream into fruition.
